Tiny House Movement Brings Relief to Those With Big Mortgages
Teeny-tiny living spaces aren't just for Manhattanites anymore. According to the Etsy Blog, the latest DIY trend is to build yourself a super-small, yet efficient house that will allow you to own it free and clear — no mortgage! Not only are these doll-sized abodes beneficial to the environment, they're also just about the cutest thing we've ever seen.
We know, building a DIY house sounds overwhelming, so if your carpentry skills aren't up to par, you can always hire a professional to do it for you. The cost will still be less than an average down payment — and it's buying you a whole house! Debra Jordan of Arkansas paid $20K for a contractor on Craigslist to construct her mini dream-house in just six weeks! She shares the 10- by 32-foot space with her husband and teenage son, who similarly plans to build his own home when he turns 18.
If 320 square feet sounds just a little too little for you, keep in mind that the smaller-is-better craze applies to houses of all sizes, ranging from trailers of just 89 square feet to bigger models up to 1000 square feet.
