DWTS All-Stars: Were the Judges Too Hard on Shawn and Derek’s Titanic Rumba?
OK, maybe their hearts won’t go on and on.
Shawn Johnson &Derek Hough did a Rumba to the Titanic theme on Night 2 of the Dancing With the StarsAll-Stars Week 5 “Guilty Pleasures” Performance Show. Shawn was scared to show vulnerability, but she and Derek channeled Jack and Rose and danced their emotional Rumba on a round, raised platform, complete with smoke in the end, for the death of poor Jack.
Well, maybe Jack was the lucky one. Things started out well with the judges, but went downhill fast. Bruno Tonioli said “That was awesome!” It was like waves in the ocean. He was with them every minute. She was emotionally connected like he’s never seen. Touching, romantic and stunning. Carrie Ann Inaba felt like a proud mama. Shawn has grown so much. However, there was a lift, she said, so she had to send Shawn to her room as Lift Police. It was a catch, they argued, as the crowd booed, and not really a lift. Len Goodman was even more harsh. He said “For me it was a Dickens novel. I had Great Expectations, I got Bleak House.” There was no hip action, he said. The crowd booed. Carrie Ann and Bruno disagreed. Len said it was beautiful, but not a Rumba. Carrie Ann and Bruno strongly disagreed.
Host Tom Bergeron had quipped that Carrie Ann would be playing the iceberg tonight, but maybe it was really Len.
The judges' comments were pretty harsh in general all night (poor Apolo and Karina!), but do you think they were too hard on Shawn and Derek or do you think they were fair? Carrie Ann gave them a 9, Len went for an 8 and Bruno went all the way to 10. Which judge got it right?
