Gossip Girl Creator Josh Schwartz on Discovering the Next Big Thing
We’ve been hearing all sorts of sentimental feelings about the end of Gossip Girl... but most of the tears and emotions seem to be coming from fans. While we’re off explaining to our plastic surgeons how to give us Blair’s pout in hopes of luring Chuck Bass, the cast seems to be pretty much over it all. So what gives? Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz tells The Huffington Postthe cast’s “excitement about the show ending is the same way you felt about college ending: You loved it, it was a blast, it changed your life, and the excitement is about what's coming next.” We get that. It’s been real, but what’s next for the cast? Josh says, “They’ll have great careers.”
So, how does he keep the cast putting their best Louboutin forward? “Any time you're into season five or six or more — that's a long time to be playing the same part or writing the same stories. That's part of the challenge of TV. But the cast still shows up every day and gives it their all. There's not a scene that Leighton Meester is not showing up for and crushing,” Josh says.

Josh knows a few things about casting excellent people -- especially largely unknown actors who he makes into stars. After all, he made household names out of Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson before we ever met Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass. “It's really about finding people that are bringing something new to this kind of part. People who are making it feel real and true. Then it's about trying to foster that chemistry. But you really want to make sure everyone is bringing a different color, flavor and tone, and that's what helps fill out the ensemble,” he says of the process.
We can’t wait to see what zip code and which actors he brings by our living rooms next.
