Madeleine Stowe Talks About Her Close Friend Mel Gibson: “I Do Not Believe He’s an Anti-Semite in My Heart of Hearts” (VIDEO)

We’re loving Madeleine Stowe’s latest press tour. From her political activism on The View to her sexy sweat-wiping on Jimmy Fallon, Revenge’s most deliciously evil villain has certainly been making the rounds.

During the 54-year-old actress’ appearance on Katie Couric’s new talk show, Katie, today, the subject of her close friend Mel Gibson came up. Mel and Madeleine starred in 2002’s We Were Soldiers, and have remained good friends since. In June, the pair was even spotted walking the streets of Los Angeles together!

For the past few years, Mel has been under intense media scrutiny for claims of anti-semitism. When asked about it, Madeleine handled the question carefully.

“He’s very tortured by what’s going on,” she revealed. “I do not believe he’s an anti-semite in my heart of hearts. He’s a very complex, deep individual. I think Jodie Foster has remained his friend, I’ve remained his friend, and I hope the best for him. He’s a special man.”

She went on to talk about the many goods Mr. Gibson has done over the years saying, “It’s not for me to assess what has been going on in his heart and in his mind. I can only tell you the Mel that I know. He was probably one of the most wonderful people on the set, ever. He does tremendous humanitarian work that he has never told anybody about.”
