Top 3 Most Surprising Knockout Round Wins From The Voice Season 3

If we could use one adjective to describe The Voice this season, it would be unpredictable. With the addition of the “steals” in the battle rounds and the new knockout round, we never can tell what will happen next.

Last night’s knockout rounds proved that not only do the coaches not pick favorites, but they reward those contestants who surprise and impress them. Coaches Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green were the first to showcase their teams’ talent, and three of their knockout battles really shocked us.

Here were the Top 3 most surprising wins:

1) Cody Belew Beats Avery Wilson

A curse-word-happy country boy versus a 16-year-old prodigy? We thought fan and coach favorite Avery Wilson had this one in the bag. But his rendition of “Yeah 3X” underwhelmed everyone, while Cody’s “Jolene” impressed his coach. Cee Lo struggled with the idea of giving up his Golden Boy, but ultimately he made the right call and picked the contestant with the stronger performance.

2) Loren Allred Beats Nicole Nelson

After offering one of the most impressive blind auditions with her version of “Hallelujah,” Nicole Nelson’s smooth and pure sounds were a shoo-in for the live shows. Or were they? The last person we viewed as her competition was wedding singer Loren. Up until the knockouts, Loren’s performances had all been montaged, but she was ready to take her rightful place in the spotlight with Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good.” Her shocking performance helped move her to the playoffs, while Nicole was sent back home.

3) MacKenzie Bourg Beats Danny Rosa

Though Danny’s emotional and personal connection to his coach and the audience helped get him to the knockouts, MacKenzie’s rendition of Carly Rae Jepsen's Internet sensation, “Call Me Maybe,” helped him oust the California singer.
