The Horror Movie Workout? Study Shows You Can Burn Calories Watching Scary Flicks!
Great news for scary movie fans who might hit the Halloween candy a little too hard this year (um, guilty on both accounts): A study at the University of Westminster in the UK showed that all the adrenalin horror film watchers pump out can burn up to 200 calories! That’s like TWO fun size candy bars, you guys.
The Telegraph reports that viewers who endured 90 minutes or more of a terrifying flick saw their heart rate, oxygen intake, and carbon dioxide output accelerate, as well as the amount of calories they burned increase by an average of a third! Films that included moments of “intense stress” caused by terror-inducing surprises caused heart rates and calorie absorption to soar.
The study showed the following films to be the top 10 calorie-burners. Watch all these in a terrifying marathon and you’re melting a whopping 1,300 calories — though you may not be able to sleep well ever again.
