Dancing With The Stars

DWTS All-Stars Week 7 Sneak Peek: Fusion Dances, Swing Marathon, Spotlight on Mark and Chelsie

Speaking of fusion, Dancing With the Stars All-Stars Week 7 (starting November 5) will fuse portions of the Results Show into Monday’s Performance Show. There will be no DWTS episode on Tuesday, due to the election, and no one will go home (although they originally planned to dump someone at the end of Monday night.). However, the DWTS pro troupe will perform Monday, and the AT&T Spotlight performance will still be held, in addition to the top seven couples’ fusion dances and a swing dance marathon.

Next week will include a double elimination, and who knows what other tricks are coming after that. For now, here are details from ABC on what we can expect on the Monday, November 5 show.

The show’s opening number, choreographed by Henry Byalikov, will feature the DWTS Pro Troupe and four pros from the season.

DWTS will personalize sections of the Performance Show with “Day of Giving” messaging, integrating stories of how Hurricane Sandy has impacted several of the dancers on the show.

The couples assigned each other dances during last week’s Results Show:

Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff will dance the Cha Cha/Paso Doble
Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke will dance the Rumba/Samba
Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd will dance the Argentine Tango/Samba
Kelly Monaco & Valentin Chmerkovskiy will dance the Foxtrot/Cha Cha
Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy will dance the Quickstep/Samba
Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani will dance the Tango/Cha Cha
Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough/Mark Ballas will dance the Tango/Paso Doble

As some of the couples noted to On the Red Carpet, this means the song will be more important than ever. As Karina put it, the song “could be either absolutely fantastic and amazing or it could be a total disaster." Shawn told OTRC she loved the song she got: “It’s a great one.” Gilles shared on Facebook that they were dancing to one of his favorite singer/songwriters, Robin Thicke. Their song is "When I Get You Alone.” On Tuesday, Gilles told OTRC he didn’t like the idea of doing half of one dance style, then half of the other, so they might mix it up. But that was up to Peta. “It's going to be interesting whether we chop it up completely into two sections — a Samba and Argentine — or we literally do an Argentine step, then go into a Samba, then back into an Argentine,” Peta said. We’ll see how everyone solved that little problem on Monday.

Huge, huge fans of the marathon dances! They did a fun swing marathon back in 2010. Check it out here. After the couples’ individual fusion dances, they will all take the dance floor for a swing dance marathon with the chance to add up to 10 extra points to their scores for the night. The couple in first place will get 10 points, the couple in second place will get 9 points, the couple in third place will get 8 points, the couple in fourth place will get 7 points, the couple in fifth place will get 6 points, the couple in sixth place will get 5 points and the seventh place couple will get 4 points.

Monday night’s show also includes the season’s second “AT&T Spotlight Performance,” featuring some of the Utah’s best young dancers. The 10 featured dancers are between the ages of 15-18 and represent the future of ballroom dancing. Pro dancer Mark Ballas, who teaches in Utah during every off season, is choreographing this piece to the song, “She Wolf,” by David Guetta featuring Sia. Pro dancer Chelsie Hightower, who is from Utah, will also perform in the piece. The performance promises powerful choreography, a fusion of ballroom, hip-hop and contemporary dancing — and a look at what the future has in store.

Catch a new episode of Dancing With the Stars Season 15: All-Stars on Monday, November 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
