Sharon Osbourne Reveals Her Decision to Have a Double Mastectomy
After surviving a battle with colon cancer ten years ago, former America’s Got Talent judge Sharon Osbourne decided she wasn’t going to take any chances with her health. So upon learning that she carried the gene for breast cancer, the famous mom and wife of rocker Ozzy Osbourne made a “no brainer” decision to undergo a double mastectomy.
In a recent interview with the U.K.’s Hello! magazine, Sharon opens up about her bold decision to have the 13-hour operation last summer. “As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought: ‘The odds are not in my favor,’” she said. “I decided to just take everything off.”
The Talk co-host also acknowledged that the birth of son Jack Osbourne’s newborn daughter Pearl made her decision especially easy.
“For me, it wasn’t a big decision, it was a no-brainer. I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me. I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl,” she said. “It’s not ‘pity me.’”
