Melissa McCarthy Talks Plus-Size Body Image: “I Am Weirdly Healthy”
Melissa McCarthy has been celebrated as an award-winning comedic actress and iconoclast for what high-profile celebrities look like in Hollywood — but she told Good Housekeeping (via Daily Mail) that she has the same ups, downs, and struggles about her body image as any busy mother of two.
“Sometimes I wish I were just magically a size six and I never had to give [my weight] a single thought,” Melissa admits to the magazine, adding, “But I am weirdly healthy, so I don’t beat myself up about it — it wouldn’t help, and I don’t want to pass that onto my girls.”
Her girls are 5-year-old Vivian and 2-year-old Georgette, whom she raises alongside her husband Ben Falcone. The family leads an active lifestyle, with lots of tennis and pilates. She explains, “I don’t really know why I’m not thinner than I am,” she says. 'I don’t really drink soda; I don’t have a sweet tooth, and we eat healthfully at home.”
With two girls to raise, a skyrocketing career to maintain, and even a plus-size clothing line in the works, Melissa stays very zen about her weight and overall health. Her trick? “You just have to say, ‘It’s pretty damn good. I am right here at the moment and I’m OK with it. I’ve got other things to think about.’”
