Lady Gaga Pledges $1 Million to Hurricane Sandy Relief
Lady Gaga fans, rejoice. It’s a good day to be a Little Monster — especially if you’re a Little Monster living in New York City. In wake of the destruction left behind by Hurricane Sandy, the singer is pledging to donate $1 million to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief.
Mama Monster made the announcement on her website, saying, “If it wasn't for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today.”
She continued, “New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion. Please accept this gift on behalf of myself, my parents Joe and Cynthia, and my sister Natali; with our deepest gratitude New York for raising us.”
Yet Gaga’s million certainly isn’t the only money going toward hurricane relief. Last week’s Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together telethon on NBC raised an estimated $23 million. The nation may be divided politically right now, but it seems that everyone is willing to come together to raise support for those in need.
Congrats on being able to rise above, America. We’ve never been more proud to be “Born This Way”!
