Real Housewives of Atlanta

Cynthia Bailey Opens Up About the Heartbreaking Reason She Chose to Homeschool Her Daughter

During Cynthia Bailey’s first two seasons on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, we saw bits of her daughter, Noelle, but much of Cyn’s storyline focused on her relationship with Peter.

However, in the Season 5 premiere, we got to learn more about Noelle, including the upsetting reason why the pre-teen asked to be homeschooled. Both Cynthia and Peter alluded to the fact that Noelle was being homeschooled because she was upset at her mainstream school, but in Cynthia’s blog she reveals just how depressed Noelle had become.

Cynthia explains, “I decided to homeschool Noelle, because she was having some issues in school, not academic but social. The environment for her became one that was spirit-breaking as opposed to spirit-lifting. I know my child very well, and she was not flourishing. It was hard to watch her try to find her own identity, and own who she is.”

And over the course of a few months, Noelle’s behavior only worsened, which in turn worried Cynthia even more.

“I noticed that her behavior went from confident, strong, smart, and happy to low self-esteem, quiet, withdrawn, and sad,” Cynthia continued. “Her eating habits changed, grades dropped, and she started biting her nails uncontrollably. It was heartbreaking, and I felt so helpless.”

Yet after being homeschooled for the remainder of the school year, Noelle began to miss people her own age, and as Cynthia tweeted the other day, she is now back in a different mainstream school.

We’re so relieved that Noelle is happy and thriving now, but do you think Cynthia made the right decision to homeschool her daughter in the first place? Vote below!
