Glee Season 4, Episode 5: Does Blake Jenner’s Ryder Deserve the Role of Grease’s Danny Zuko?

At the beginning of Season 4, Episode 5, “The Role You Were Born to Play,Ryder (Blake Jenner) won the coveted role of Danny Zuko in McKinley’s production of Grease. Although he sang a pretty cool duet with Finn (Cory Monteith) to win the role, we’re wondering if he was the strongest candidate to play the iconic bad boy.

Jake (Jacob Artist) also put on a great show, singing and dancing with the badass Kitty (Becca Tobin). Ultimately, Jake was cast as Putzie. We sort of get it — when he first expressed interest in the glee club, he showed that he can be kind of a hot head, which is not ideal in a leading man.

Was Ryder’s singing strong enough to warrant the top role in the play? Considering he went from football-playing dancer to leather jacket-wearing greaser in under a school day, has he shown the commitment in being onboard for the long haul? Even when Finn joined the club, he still didn’t automatically make it to the top from the first moment. Is the musical a different story, or is this story a little short-sighted?
