In Cristina's plotline, she and Dr. Thomas worked together on a complicated double surgery that brought out Cristina's softer side, both towards her patient, and towards Dr. Thomas. On the other hand, it put her at odds with her "sex friend" Dr. Parker, who had it out for Thomas and wanted to get him fired.
By choosing to do a risky but important surgery, Thomas put his job on the line, much to Cristina's dismay. But together, they were a dream team — until Thomas collapsed in the ER and died. And then we cried. A lot. Did anyone see that coming?
Meredith, meanwhile, had a double whammy of hard. First, she had to deal with balancing mommy duty and doctor duty while Derek (Patrick Dempsey) was out of town. That ended up being a challenge, even with Callie's (Sara Ramirez) help. In fact, it took the entire hospital to take care of Zola.
But Mer's real struggle was with her patient, a young woman who was hit by a car, and ended up with injuries very reminiscent of the ones that killed Lexie (Chyler Leigh). Despite Richard's (James Pickens Jr.) concern that Mer's feeling were clouding her judgment, she kept the case. In the end, she made the right calls, and her patient came through. Plus, the experience let her finally come to terms with Lexie's death.
And the best part of the episode? Cristina finally made it back to Seattle. Yay!
Overall, we enjoyed the episode. The split screen was used well, and we loved seeing Cristina and Mer talk to each other about their lives. Dr. Thomas continued to be a delight, and his death really struck home.
We give it 3.5 stars. What about you?
I didn't like it.
