Modern Family Star Victim of Alleged Abuse, Removed From Mother’s Home: Report (UPDATE)
One Modern Family star reportedly doesn’t lead the same charmed life off-screen as her character enjoys on the show.
Actress Ariel Winter, 14, brings the laughs as Alex Dunphy, the middle child of Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen), on the hit ABC sitcom. But if a recent report in TMZ is to be believed, her real-life home situation is no laughing matter.
According to the site, a judge has ordered that Ariel be removed from her home due to “serious allegations of physical and emotional abuse by her mother,” Crystal Workman.
Ariel is apparently staying with her older sister Shanelle Gray, who has been appointed her temporary guardian. TMZ adds that Shanelle found herself in a nearly identical situation almost 20 years ago when she was removed from Crystal’s home after similar allegations were made.
Crystal has denied the reported abuse in an interview with People, claiming, “It's all untrue, it's all untrue.”
In a subsequent statement to Celebuzz (via TMZ), Crystal says the accusations stemmed from an incident in which she came between her daughter and her daughter's 18-year-old boyfriend. “My 14-year-old daughter has been dating an 18-and-a-half-year-old man, and when I caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too young mentally and physically to understand and fully grasp I put a stop to it immediately.” Ariel's brother has also refuted the allegations.
In this case, it's impossible to know whom to believe.
