How Did One Kid Spend $4,000 of His Parents’ Life Savings on Candy?

We’re still scratching our heads over the logistics, but according to Russian news agency RIA Novosi, one Ukraine boy emptied his parents’ cash savings — kept hidden under their couch (d’oh!) — to buy candy for him and his friends!

According to the Tatyana Kushnerova of the local police department in Konotop, Ukraine, the father knew something was up when he returned home from work one day to a surprising discovery. No, it wasn’t mounds of candy wrappers or his son in a diabetic coma — she says, “He opened the stash [of cash] and saw that it was empty.”

The boy soon confessed to draining the entire savings — nearly $4,000 — to buy candy over his fall break from school. However, because the cash savings were in Euros, and had to be converted to Ukrainian currency, it’s clear that the boy had an adult accomplice.

Um, does Willy Wonka have an alibi? Just sayin’.
