Bones

Bones Review of Season 8, Episode 6: “The Patriot In Purgatory” — What Did You Think?

In honor of Veteran’s Day, Bones aired a special episode that brought the events — and the heroes — of September 11 back into full focus.

Season 8, Episode 6: "The Patriot In Purgatory" told the story of a Desert Storm vet, wracked with PTSD and driven to homelessness, who happened to be in Pentagon on 9/11 just as the plane was crashing into the building. The man risked everything to save the lives of three people, tossing wreckage aside and pulling them out from under the concrete — only to be killed by the resulting injuries from his untreated wounds only days later.

He was the ultimate hero, and yet nobody knew his name. Society had forgotten him, but the Jeffersonian team was determined to figure out who he was.

Throughout the course of the episode, many of the characters shared their own experiences and memories of 9/11. Some, like Wendall, lost family members in the tragedy. Others, like Aristoo, found their religion, and their religious identity, suddenly hijacked by men who reflected nothing about the God they believe in.

It was a powerful episode on so many levels, and a sobering reminder to never forget the events of our nation’s past — and to never let misconceptions, pride or ignorance get in the way.

Such a good episode!

Not one of my favorites.
