Melissa Rycroft: Cheryl Burke Would Be “Phenomenal” as Bachelorette

Melissa Rycroft was almost the Season 5 Bachelorette, instead of Jillian Harris, so she’s in a good position to share advice with her friend and fellow Dancing With the Stars competitor, Cheryl Burke.

Jason Mesnick picked Melissa at the end of The Bachelor Season 13, then changed his mind, launching a relationship with his runner-up, and now wife, Molly Malaney Mesnick. Melissa was the natural choice to be the next Bachelorette, and she was reportedly ready to go until Nancy O'Dell got injured and there was an opening on DWTS Season 8. The rest is history. Melissa took third place and is now back for All-Stars, where she is leading the pack with the top scores of Week 8.

DWTS pro Cheryl has been all over the rumor mill lately as a potential candidate to be the next Bachelorette. How does Melissa feel about that? She told Zap2it Cheryl "would be phenomenal in this role," adding that, "everyone is very possessive of their Cheryl here, and I personally love her a lot." The Bachelorette boys would have to suffer through extensive grilling with her DWTS family, Melissa said. "I will definitely be in on that, absolutely. I will help her weed out the ones that are not worthy."

Melissa has not had fond things to say about The Bachelor in the past, saying she thought she was in love with Jason, but it wasn't real — and she didn't even know what he did for a living off the show. She added some of those cautions to Zap2it. "You can't necessarily go in thinking, 'I'm going to find my mate, or my spouse.' You have to go in saying, 'This is a new adventure and if it leads me that way, or at least gives me a great relationship, take that.'"

It’s still way too early to know if Cheryl will be the next Bachelorette or not, but she is telling everyone who’ll listen that she wants the job. And now she has an endorsement from Melissa. That can’t hurt!
