Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time Speculation: Could Henry and Aurora’s Dream Become the Portal?

In the last scene of Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 7: “Child of the Moon,” we learned that it’s possible for the two worlds of Fairytale Land and Storybrooke to communicate. The only problem? The circumstances involve two victims of the sleeping curse, a wall of fire, and a whole lot of hope.

Both Henry (Jared Gilmore) and Aurora (Sarah Bolger) were recently afflicted with the sleeping curse, which caused them to sink into a coma-like spell until they were woken up by True Love. In Henry’s case, that was his mother Emma (Jennifer Morrison), and in Aurora’s, that was Prince Philip (Julian Morris). But one of the side effects of the curse is that one can still enter the “netherworld” when they sleep, as Mr. Gold (Robert Carlyle) explains to Henry, before giving him a magic necklace that will help him regain control during his nightmares.

Now we know that Henry and Aurora aren’t only having the same dream — they are in each other’s dream. They can see each other, and hear each other from across the dark, fiery room they’re both stuck in. As we’ve pointed out in our 10 Burning Questions, this fiery netherworld might be used as the portal they’re both looking for to bring back Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Emma.

What does it take to travel in between worlds? There’s the portal itself (which has been Jefferson’s [Sebastian Stan] now-disintegrated magic hat, a magic bean, and Emma’s wardrobe in the past), some fairy dust, and the magic compass. Now that Emma and Mary Margaret have the compass, the magic bean, and Storybrooke has access to fairy dust, it seems possible that they can use Aurora’s and Henry’s dream as the portal.

First, of course, Henry would need to take the fairy dust with him to the netherworld, and give it to Aurora without getting burned. He’s already woken up with mild burn marks, so he has to be incredibly careful next time.

Plus, there’s still Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Cora (Barbara Hershey) to worry about. They have their own portal (the ashes from Emma’s wardrobe), and Cora probably has access to fairy dust, or at least the dark magic equivalent. We envision a race to Storybrooke, using the limited supplies they have at hand. Will Hook manage to steal Emma and Mary Margaret’s bean or the compass before they get there?

Tell us what you think of this theory, that Henry’s dream will be used as the portal, in the comments below!
