The Vampire Diaries

Vampire Diaries Speculation: Why Stefan Shouldn’t Have Lied to Elena in Season 4, Episode 5, “The Killer”

So, here’s the thing: Don’t ever lie to Elena (Nina Dobrev). Even if you’re compelled by Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and under threat of losing your only chance at salvation... just don’t do it.

No one learned that lesson harder than Stefan (Paul Wesley) in Vampire Diaries Season 4, Episode 5, “The Killer. Blood hit the fan after Elena discovered that some secrets were circling behind her back.

What were those again? Glad you asked. He’s been hiding things not just from his girl, but from bro Damon (Ian Somerhalder) as well. Like the fact that he has a secret deal with Klaus. And that there’s a cure for vampirism. Oh, and that Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) was held captive for a day to decipher the hunter’s tattoo. Which means they also didn’t tell her that Jer can see dead people and invisible tattoos.

But, the thing is, Elena’s a basket case right now. It’s not just because she killed Connor (Todd Williams) and sees blood all over her bathroom mirror. This chick is barely keeping it together, and Stefan knows it. Which is why it makes sense that he didn’t tell her. In fact, if she ever learns the whole truth, chances are that her newbie vampire emotions will go even further off the rails.

A freshly minted vamp who feels like she has no one to trust... Yeah, that’ll end real well. Lesson learned: Keep Elena close, but your secrets closer.
