The Voice Season 2 Finalist Tony Lucca Talks New Collaboration With Justin Timberlake and His Christina Aguilera-Inspired Song
On last night’s live results show on The VoiceSeason 3, viewers got a special look at last season’s Team Adam finalist, Tony Lucca.
The controversial rocker made headlines for his feud with coach Christina Aguilera last season. The two originally met at the Mickey Mouse Club as children, and apparently they weren’t the best of friends.
Last season, Xtina did everything in her power to bring Tony down — from calling him “one-dimensional” to saying he was only in the competition thanks to “celebrity sway.”
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Tony admitted he’s currently pursuing his Mouseketeer buddy Justin Timberlake for a collaboration on his upcoming album.
“After I signed with Adam, I hit [Justin] up right away,” Tony said. “We’re different genres stylistically as artists, but as musicians and as a producer, he’s done just about every kind of thing out there. It would definitely have his Midas touch on it; he’s not afraid to take risks either.”
Justin’s supportive tweets during The Voice Season 2 inspired Christina to claim that “celebrity sway” was keeping Tony in the competition. And Tony hasn’t forgotten Xtina’ “contributions” to his time on the show.
One of his new tracks, “What I Ever Done,” indirectly references the on-stage feud.
“It’s a new track that’s kind of tongue-in-cheek,” Tony’s longtime drummer Mic Capdevielle said. “There are some people out there, they go for it — they spit out some, 'beep Christina!' And we’re like, whoa! But it’s fun, though, because the song itself has quite a bit of energy.”
But according to Tony’s other bandmates, those who aren’t familiar with the fight won’t pick up on the context of the tune.
