The Voice’s Michaela Paige Talks Breaking Away From Her Signature Look: “My Hair Doesn’t Define Me”
For most Voice fans, Michaela Paige is synonymous with a sky-high, multi-colored mohawk, but the Team Blake contestant doesn’t want to be defined by her looks.
The punk rock princess has picked similar songs throughout the competition, but after debuting her sleek new look last night, she plans to change up her musical style, too.
Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Michaela after her performance of P!nk’s “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” and got the scoop on her future plans. Wetpaint Entertainment: How do you feel about your latest performance? Michaela Paige: I honestly feel like I set out to accomplish what I did. I picked a challenging song, which most people don't think of as a challenging song. I wanted to go out there and really show people that my hair doesn't define me. I can still be a star regardless of all that jazz. So I really think that I accomplished that. Do you think that your unique look gives makes you stand out in this competition? I see people all the time and they comment on my hair and my look, but I think that looks can be deceiving, and I think that this show is perfect for that. What are you planning for your next performance? I'm hoping to do a ballad. I really want to show people the softer side of me, and it's about time that we do that. What inspires you on stage? I grew up listening to blues and jazz, so I take a lot of that. I think that I get inspiration from everyone around me, especially these artists. All the artists that I've met have really made me a better musician.
