Former American Idol Contestant Wanted in Florida Robbery Case
UPDATE: Antonio turned himself in to the Volusia County Branch Jail on Tuesday, November 13, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. He was booked on charges of armed robbery and posted $50,000 bail.
Fans of American Idol Season 9 may remember Antonio “Skii Bo Ski” Wheeler for his larger-than-life personality and powerhouse rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “I Heard It Through the Grapevine.”
But now, the former contestant is making the news for an entirely different reason.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that Antonio is wanted for robbing a couple at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Target store on Saturday, November 10.
Fletcher Carroll and Heather Creary told police they attempted to buy two computers from the 25-year-old singer, which turned out to be fake, but that he pulled a gun and demanded they pay anyway. Antonio took $750 from the couple before driving off in a van. Police were able to pull a partial fingerprint from the fake computers, which matched Antonio’s.
Following the incident, a warrant has been issued in his name on the charge of armed robbery.
Unfortunately, this isn’t Antonio's first run-in with the law. Florida state records show that he’s been arrested at least 25 times since 1998.
And the authorities are certainly not impressed with Antonio’s brush with TV fame.
“Apparently when you go on American Idol and you don't’ win, you go out and pull the sh*t he’s doing,” said Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood.
