Sylvia is this season’s most notorious powerhouse singer of The Voice, and she really showed off her pipes during her performance. Although she stumbled a bit — likely because of nerves — she chose to keep the song in a higher octave, showcasing a lot of raw emotion as the sound built.
She got a bit carried away toward the end with improvisation, but that risk impressed all of the judges. Cee Lo Green even said it was the “second best” (after the original) because he’d never heard anyone cover it before.
Carly Rose’s rendition was the opposite, taking a mellow approach and altering the song to a lower octave. Because of those subtle changes, the 13-year-old singer had more control, and in turn delivered an incredibly powerful performance.
This show-stopper impressed all four of the judges, and L. A. Reid said, “We could be looking at the winner.” Even Simon Cowell was full of compliments, saying, “I don’t believe you’re a human being because you can’t do that at 13. Your control on that song … was absolutely incredible.”
