On a show already full of wild plot twists, a Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) pregnancy would be the craziest one yet.
Per a blind item over at TVLine, the bipolar Homeland spy has a 1 in 13 chance of being “a certain female character [...] about to be paid a visit by the stork.”
Star Claire Danes is expecting her first child with husband Hugh Dancy, so if the blind item is about the Showtime series, she would finally be able to let her baby bump out of hiding from behind all those practical power suits. However, before the show’s sophomore season premiered in late September, Claire claimed that her real-life pregnancy wasn’t going to be written into Carrie’s story arc.
"I’ve been pretty fortunate thus far — we’re in the middle of filming our second season and luckily we’ve been able to conceal it," Claire said in a September appearance on Live! with Kelly (via People). "They haven’t written it in, but they’ll be able to manipulate it in post and do some CGI trickery and make Carrie not so pregnant.”
Naturally, we’re already doubting that she’s the TV character in question. The other hint that it’s not Carrie? TVLine adds that while the mystery mom-to-be will be shocked, “fans of the show, by contrast, will likely love the plot twist.”
As fun as it is to see Carrie connect with Damian Lewis’s Brody (the likeliest baby-daddy candidate) on a more intimate level, we — as fans of the show — wouldn’t be overjoyed at the news of a coming lovechild. On top of that, can you really picture Carrie either swapping the CIA for motherhood or juggling the two? Not so much.
In a nutshell, while Carrie is one of TVLine’s 13 possible preggo ladies, she’s far from the prime suspect.
