AMAs 2012: Justin Bieber Wins Artist of the Year

Considering the success he’s had this year, it was no surprise that Justin Bieber won Artist of the Year at the 2012 American Music Awards. He had already won AMAs for Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Album of the Year, but was still oozing emotion when he took the stage to accept the award.

His mom, Pattie Mallette, joined Biebs on stage. Justin turned to her and said “I want to thank my mom. She’s small but she’s beautiful,” before continuing to stumble over his words and emotions.

“I can’t even think... I mean, I’m so blown away right now. I want to thank you,” he said, turning to his mom, “for always believing in me. I want to thank all of you... I’m at a loss for words. It’s hard growing up... As long as you guys keep believing in me... I will always make you proud. I will always make you proud.”

Earlier in the night, he performed “Beauty and the Beat” with Nicki Minaj as well as a stripped-down version of “As Long as You Love Me.” We couldn’t tell if we were just reading into the evening because of his recent struggles with Selena Gomez, but it seemed like it took a lot out of him.

Congratulations to Biebs (and his mom) for the win. Chances are it’s his first of many such awards this year.
