Kenya Moore Opens Up About Her Heartbreaking Past and Difficult Relationship With Her Mother: “I Can Honestly Say I Don’t Love Her”
On Season 5, Episode 3 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, heartbreaking details about Kenya Moore’s past have began to emerge, and this isn't the first time she's mentioned said history.
In a 1993 interview from People magazine conducted just months after she was crowned Miss USA, Kenya revealed that (at least at the time) she had virtually no relationship with her own mother, Patricia Moore.
“I can honestly say I don't love her," Kenya said. "I don't even know her.”
Kenya’s mother — who got pregnant with her when she was just 16 — never named her daughter and sent her to live with her paternal grandmother after she was born.
Even when Kenya tried to establish a bond with her mom a little later in life, she had almost no success.
“She would treat me like I was invisible," Kenya explained. And by the time she had reached her teenage years, Kenya stopped trying to communicate with her mother altogether. "I decided never to let her hurt me again,” she declared.
However, Kenya’s mother seems to take issue with how Kenya has chosen to portray her. “I'm a very private person," Patricia revealed. "It doesn't matter how dim Kenya portrays me, because I know exactly who I am.”
