Ian Somerhalder and Olivia Wilde Want You to Visit a News Website with a Charitable Twist
If there’s one thing we know about Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder (Damon), it’s that on top of being Mystic Falls’ resident bad boy vampire, he’s also an environmental do-gooder. Case in point: Recently we told you about how Ian has wood — the kind that comes from trees, which he’s using for his Built of Barnwood organization — and now this Salvatore brother is adding another passion project notch to his belt. This time, it’s in the form of RYOT, a revolutionary online news site that gives consumers the opportunity to read content and immediately respond through social action. “I’m so excited to be joining RYOT’s advisory board — this site is going to fundamentally change the way we think about news consumption,” Ian said in a statement. “It’s time for people to expect more from their news. With RYOT, you’re making a difference just by visiting the site and you’re given the choice to actually do something about what you read.” The way it works is that every article posted to RYOT.org comes with a corresponding action-box that sends you directly to an organization associated with the cause. So, in other words, if you read about Ian’s family trying to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, you’ll also be given an option to donate.
Plus, if Ian isn’t enough incentive to visit the site, the online site has another celeb advocate in the form of Olivia Wilde. But we’re pretty sure Ian has sold us on it as is!
