The Voice’s Dez Duron Reveals What Really Goes on During Those “Towel Warm Ups” — Exclusive

Last night on The Voice Season 3, Team Christina’s Sylvia Yacoub got America all hot and bothered when she referenced Dez Duron “warming up in his towel.”

[Pause for visual.]

So when Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the sexy crooner on the red carpet after the show, it was time to set the record straight. Dez filled us in on all of his pre-show rituals and his plans for the next phase of the competition.

First and foremost, do you really warm up in a towel as Sylvia said?

That sounded dirtier than it was because she meant like I sing into a towel because it muffles the sound. She isn’t in the room when I’m in my towel out of the shower.

Well, it’s a good thing to clarify. You have a lot of female fans out there.

Yeah. Let’s clear that up! [Laughs]

The coaches said that you found your niche tonight. Do you see this genre as your niche?

I don’t know. I think me and Christina are going to have to talk that over and cook something up. This genre obviously has a huge place in my heart. I love it. It’s all I sang for a good 3 to 4 years. No matter what sound I do, [this genre] will always influence what I do. I don’t know if it will be right down this alley, but it will definitely be a huge piece.

Were you watching all of the performances before you went on?

Yes. They have a TV back in the room, so I was kind of seeing what everyone at home was seeing, and I know that they were just loving it. I’m a fan of everybody, so I kind of had to put my fan hat on. I didn’t want to look at it as a competition because that would have been horrible to have to compete with these dudes. I went into fan mode watched it, enjoyed it, brushed it off, and acted like I was the only one singing tonight.

The crowd looked like they were having a great time!

The crowd was so alive and I got to feed off of all of their energy, so it was great. I had a horn section behind me — I have never had a horn section behind me! I couldn’t help but move up there. I felt like I was living my dream since I was a little kid. It was amazing.

How do you feel about tomorrow and going into the results show?

I try not to think too much about tomorrow. I don’t know how well I’ll sleep tonight. All I can do is go out there and put my heart out on stage and hope it connects with somebody. It’s been an amazing experience so far and I hope it continues. The hard part is over with performing and there is no wrong choice when it comes to picking eight people to move forward, but there’s no easy choice when it comes to watching two people go. Tomorrow is tough, but the show is going to be unbelievable. I want to tell everybody that. It’s not a results show you want to miss!
