The Vampire Diaries

Happy Turkey Day! A Very Vampire Diaries Thanksgiving

Welcome to Mystic Falls, where we don’t celebrate traditional holidays. Thanksgiving? Never heard of it. But on a Thursday in November, we hold the Founder’s Feast. The tradition started when a family of settlers first arrived in the Falls. According to legend (and cave drawings), the newcomers’ customs mingled with those who had lived in the area for years. The exact date of the first feast is unknown, but historians believe it may have been hundreds of years before the town’s founding in 1860.

We don’t call it a feast for nothing! Turkey, potatoes, yams, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie are all staples of the meal. The late Tobias Fell’s stuffing will once again be sorely missed this year, as will his (occasionally long-winded) descriptions of life in Mystic Falls circa 1860.

In addition to these foods, the Lockwoods often make a delectable steak tartare — a recipe that’s been in the family for years. Make sure you don’t mind your meat a little raw before biting into that dish!

Now that the Salvatore brothers have returned to Mystic Falls, they like to bring their special homemade mulberry wine. It’s got quite a kick, and few people can stomach it. They seem to enjoy it though.

We love a reason to get dressed up in old tyme garb here in Mystic Falls, so bust out your corsets, your bowties, and your fancy hats, because all are welcome. Of course, if you prefer more modern clothes, you’ll still be invited in.

For some reason, if the moon is full, the party breaks up fairly early. But the day starts early enough with an old fashioned game of football. Yes, even the ladies play in their hoop skirts and hats. Don’t worry about it.

We also set up a hedge maze that’s lots of fun for kids and adults alike, although folks do seem to go missing from there a lot. Ah well, they’ll probably turn up. This year, Klaus Mikaelson has organized a ditch-digging contest. Heaven knows how we'll fill all those holes in the ground afterwards, but it will certainly help work up an appetite! After all the exercise, we hold a dance. Everyone already knows how to waltz thanks to the Miss Mystic Falls event, so why not put those skills to good use?

We hope you can join us for the Founder’s Feast, which will be held at the Lockwood mansion at 2 p.m. The Mayor has agreed to sponser the event this year, seeing as the Town Council is currently disbanded. Please bring your appetites and feel free to invite any strangers you meet along the way. In Mystic Falls, we like to say, a stranger is just someone you haven’t invited into your home yet.
