The Voice’s Sylvia Yacoub Talks Elimination: “I Had a Feeling Today Was the Day I Was Going Home” — Exclusive

Last night’s live results show on The Voice Season 3 was shocking to many, as fan favorites Sylvia Yacoub and Bryan Keith were sent home.

But when Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with the Team Christina contestant last night on the red carpet following the show, she didn’t seem surprised in the least bit. In fact, she claims to have predicted it.

Wetpaint Entertainment: You made it to the Top 10. That has to at least feel great.

Sylvia Yacoub: It does feel great! I never thought I would get that far. It’s a huge honor to have made it here, in such a talented group as well.

What was going through your head today when you were up on stage and found out you were going home?

Well I was already kind of mentally prepared for it. I had a feeling that today was the day I was going to go home.

You did?

Yeah. I kind of had it in my head. I told my friends, “I think I’m going home today.” When he said, Team Adam, I was thinking, “Thank you for not making me have to wait any longer” and I knew it. At the end of the day, it’s a TV show and my name is out there. I made such amazing friends and great connections that I would have never had without the show.

Are you going to go home and keep focusing on music?

I would love to keep doing music, yes. I want to put off school a little longer and try to put out an album of my own music. I have my own stuff that I haven’t been able to show.

What is the best thing that you got out of being on the show?

I think I finally am figuring out who I am as a person, what kind of artist I want to be, and I’ve finally grown confidence that I don’t think I had before. I’m just realizing that I really want to keep singing and to stay true to myself. That’s one thing that Christina told me that I’m going to keep doing.

Did this show help you figure out what style of music best suits you?

I’d always been afraid to do the stuff on the piano and that kind of stuff. When that got accepted and when I got up there and people reacted the way they did to it, I was like, “OK I can do this kind of music.” At the same time I still want to stay true to powerhouse fun anthem songs too. I want to be able to do both of those things.

Were you shocked to see that Bryan went home today too?

I was. I thought for sure that he would have been one of the ones going forward. That just goes to show you that everyone did amazing. That nobody could predict what would have happened.

What did Christina say to you when you got off stage today?

Basically that she didn’t win her singing competition and neither did Jennifer Hudson and they went out and did great things and that I’m a fighter and screw law school and keep singing because I need to keep singing.

And you remind her of a young version of herself…

Which is awesome!

Do you think Sylvia should have stayed in the competition? Weigh in below!
