The X Factor’s Carly Rose Sonenclar on Singing While Sick and Watching Her Friends Go Home — Exclusive
X Factor contestant Carly Rose Sonenclar has been on top since day one. The 13-year-old Mamaroneck native has gotten a crazy amount of positive feedback for her performances on this season of the show, and has been ranked second for the last two weeks. It seems like the only thing standing between her and the crown might be time — and an unexpected illness. Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Carly Rose at the Top 10 party to chat about where she’ll go from here.
Wetpaint: How adamant are you about picking your song choice? Carly Rose: It depends on the week. Some weeks, I will come in with a list, and we will look at it. We will do some of them, and routine some of them. I'll come in with a bunch of songs and have to pick from those. So this week, we picked together. We found the one we liked quickly.
What do you to rest your throat when sick like this? Shouldn't be talking. It's one of those things where if I don't have a story, that could affect the voting. So I have to talk. But when I'm not doing this stuff, I'm not talking at all.
How hard is to sing being sick? I don't know how I'm going to be feeling on the day of. Hopefully I will be feeling better. It makes it a lot more nerve-wracking knowing that my voice isn't 100%. I'm pretty sure I have strep throat — and that's not a good thing to have.
What's the most emotional part of the process? Elimination days. One, you're nervous you're going to go home. Then, if you don't go home, you see someone else go home, so it's hard.
