X Factor’s CeCe Frey “Very Proud” of How She Honored Her Sister’s Memory — Exclusive
The X Factor Season 2 “Give Thanks” performances were a searing round of emotional memories — but none more so than CeCe Frey’s revelation that her sister died in 1991 of cerebral palsy. CeCe, who was just one year old at the time, dedicated her November 21, 2012 rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings” to her sister, Kelsey. Wetpaint Entertainment spoke exclusively with CeCe about how she felt after that powerful performance.
How did you feel about your performance [on November 21]? I felt great about my performance. I was really happy with it and the way that it turned out. I know that it wasn’t my most amazing vocal performance, but that really didn’t matter. That was not what was important to me tonight. It was really about pouring my heart and soul into it tonight because if I want to pick a song that didn’t touch me the way that song touched me, I could do a crazy, acrobatic performance, but that’s not what tonight was about. So, I’m very proud and very happy.
Your performance was so touching tonight and really honored your sister’s memory. That’s honestly all that I cared about. I didn’t care what the judges had to say. Honestly, the judges could have hated what I did tonight and that’s not what mattered to me. What mattered was that I give my sister a proper dedication and I feel like I did that. So, whatever the outcome of [November 22] is, I will be okay.
How else do you honor your sister? You had mentioned that you decorate your Christmas tree with purple because she loved that color. We have her picture in the house. Christmas is definitely the time because she died on Christmas Eve so, Christmas is the time that we pay a lot of attention to her. I put purple accents and things around to honor her and I wear purple when I feel like I really need her around.
