Jonathan Groff’s TV Show Cancelled

Sad news for fans of Jonathan Groff (Jesse St. James). The Glee guest star’s new television show has been cancelled.

All this fall, Jonathan had a regular role on the Starz drama, Boss, which starred Kelsey Grammer as a scheming Chicago mayor suffering from a neurological disease that kept getting worse.

“After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with Boss,” Starz said in a statement, via Entertainment Weekly. “We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV.”

The show, which earned Kelsey a Golden Globe but never really managed to excel in ratings or viewers, featured Jonathan as Ian, a calculating and power-hungry staffer working for Kelsey’s Mayor Kane. It was a “very sexual” role, and the sort of scenes Ian took part in would likely make even the new Rachel Berry blush ever-so-slightly.

We’re sad to see any project with Jonathan come to an end, but we can’t say we’re too upset to hear that this schedule just opened up. If Glee ever wanted to bring him back to Season 4 on a more long-term basis — you certainly wouldn’t hear us complain one bit!
