How Did Christina Aguilera Start Her Career? You Asked, We Answered!
Sure, Christina Aguilera is one the biggest pop stars around, but it hasn’t always been like that — even if the diva always knew she would be. Born in Staten Island, N.Y. in 1980, the young Aguilera became a regular on the local talent show and competition circuit, and was even known locally as the “little girl with the big voice.”
And even if we didn’t know her just yet, Christina was already on her way to singing stardom. In 1990, she made her national television debut, appearing as a contestant on the famed Star Search.
Though she ended up losing, the precocious young vocalist didn’t let that stop her-auditioning for Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club a full two years before she met the age requirement. But, the producers didn’t forget her, and she joined the sketch comedy show in 1992 alongside such talents as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Ryan Gosling.
Disney continued to navigate her career path, and after she auditioned for the chance to record the Mulan track, “Reflection,” (which she totally nailed), producer and label executive Ron Fair signed her to RCA Records that same week.
In 1999, she released her self-titled debut album, and we’re pretty sure you know what happened after that!
