Once Upon a Time Season 2: Emma and Captain Hook are “Kindred Spirits”

Good news for Emma (Jennifer Morrison)/Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) shippers!

Things got a little junior high on Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 8: “Into the Deep.” Cora (Barbara Hershey), having obtained Aurora's (Sarah Bolger) heart thanks to Hook, spoke through the princess, telling Emma a number of things, including that Hook kinda liked her. Apparently that was an adlib, and Hook smirked that it was a nice touch but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t true!

We know Emma has a few potential love interests out there, including Hook, and Jennifer Morrison gave some hope to Captain Swan fans, telling The Huffington Post that Hook and Emma are something like “kindred spirits.”

"They’re both thieves and they’ve come from troubled pasts and they’ve both lost a true love, so I think that there’s a lot that they recognize in each other," Jennifer said. "So there’s that camaraderie and also the combativeness of that, right away."

The first love Emma lost is presumably Neal Cassady, the father of her son, Henry (Jared Gilmore). (Although, there’s reason to think Emma and Neal may be reunited later this season...) Hook had his own love story with Milah, Rumplestiltskin’s (Robert Carlyle) ex-wife and the mother of Baelfire. Hook’s love for Milah is at the root of his desire to get to Storybrooke for revenge against Rumple.

Colin O’Donoghue agrees that a strong woman who says what she wants is the type of gal that Hook goes for. He likes that back and forth. "I would like to see how somebody like Hook could be if they were to go that way in a relationship with someone,” Colin told the Huffington Post. “Because he’s lost this love and it’s very difficult when you’ve lost that type of love to want to have it back again. When revenge is such a big part of [his journey], I’d be interested to see how that might work."

Jennifer isn’t taking sides yet. Her character has plenty of options out there, and she just wants to see Emma have some romance in her life, however and wherever she finds it: “It’s been a while!”

Should Emma end up with Hook or Neal or Jefferson (Sebastian Stan) or Regina (Lana Parrilla) or August (Eion Bailey) or …who's your choice for her?

Catch the next new episode of Once Upon a Time on Sunday, December 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
