Who Will Win DWTS All-Stars? Why We Think It Will Be Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough
Our part in this is done — other than as spectators. Hopefully, you voted for your favorite couple after last night’s Dancing With the StarsAll-StarsFinale Performance Show. Tonight we get to see the Instant Dances, then watch the magic happen as those scores are combined with the votes and scores from Monday, then calibrated through the byzantine scoring process until “The Champion of Champions” is named.
We think it will be Shawn Johnson. Why? We already listed some reasons she could win, and that was before last night’s show. Sure, she and Derek Hough landed at the bottom of the judges’ leaderboard, but that doesn’t mean much when three points separate top and bottom and we still have tonight’s scores to add to the mix. Besides, playing to the audience may have been a very smart move on a season where everyone has said it’s going to come down to the fan votes.
Shawn and Derek were already a dream team right out of the gate, she being the youngest and most recent winner of the six All-Stars returning champions and he being the most decorated DWTS pro in the show’s history. Derek has won this show three times; he owns the recipe for the secret sauce. Shawn has won in the past and, yes, so has Kelly Monaco, but not since 2005, when the show only lasted for six weeks. Melissa Rycroft got the top scores last night, but Shawn and Derek took risks — just as they’ve been doing all season — saying they did so specifically to please their fans. They have tons of fans — and so do the Olympic Fierce Five, who joined Shawn’s Super-Sized Freestyle to make it even more memorable. Each one of the five Olympians has been tweeting to her own followers to support Shawn and Derek, on top of Shawn and Derek’s individual fan bases. Plus, departed All-Stars like Sabrina Bryan and Apolo Anton Ohno have come out in support of Shawn to win.
Shawn is an athlete, a wholesome all-American sweetheart, and more confident and advanced than she was back on Season 8. Yes, she did a lot of gymnastics moves this season, but that played to her strengths — and also Derek’s strengths, since he’s great at that, too. They were two exciting, creative Energizer Bunnies out there, and you never knew what they would do (to upset Len Goodman) next.
It’s still entirely possible that Melissa or Kelly will win and not Shawn, but our money is on the girl who always gets her gold. What’s your prediction? What do you want to happen?
