Grey’s Anatomy Speculation: How Will Adele’s Death Affect Richard?

In a sad but not surprising turn of events, a recent spoiler reveals that Richard's (James Pickens Jr.) wife, Adele (Loretta Devine) will die on Grey's Anatomy in early 2013.

Of course, as soon as we heard the news we started wondering how his wife's death will impact Richard. We have a few theories.

1. He'll pursue his relationship with Catherine Avery further. Richard is already moving on with Jackson's (Jesse Williams) mom. When Adele finally passes we suspect his bond with Catherine will only grow. What we really want to know is how that will affect his relationship with Jackson. Might they bond more after all?

2. Will he lighten up or get depressed? We're wondering how Adele's death will affect Richard's demeanor. Obviously we expect he'll be very sad when it happens, but long term it might actually help him embrace life fully, both because he knows how it can be cut short, and because he doesn't have to worry about Adele anymore.

3. Will he bond with Meredith? We wonder if losing someone else to Alzheimer's will actually bring Richard even closer to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). We could see him leaning on her to help get him through Adele's death.

How do you think Adele's death will affect Richard? Let us know in the comments below.
