So going into this week, we’re very cautious about declaring any results. At this point, it’s anyone’s game, and someone you thought was a fan favorite could leave the stage empty-handed tonight.
One contestant who is probably safe is Team Blake’s Cassadee Pope. Last week, her rendition of Miranda Lambert’s “Over You” topped the iTunes charts and stayed there for quite a while. This week (according to Blake’s tweets), her performance of “Are You Happy Now?” peaked at No. 2 on the charts.
But several contestants did give fairly dull performances last night. After inching his toes outside of the box last week with an Usher song, Team Cee Lo’s Trevin Hunte practically flung himself back into his comfort zone with a boring Whitney Houston ballad.
Sure, his vocals are impressive, but it’s nothing we haven’t heard before. Contestants who have taken this road in the past have been successful in the boundaries of the competition, but have failed to move on once the cameras stop rolling. Does anyone know what Ruben Studdard’s been up to for the last 10 years? We rest our case.
America might vote him through, but we have our fingers crossed for a speedy elimination in the next two weeks.
This also might be the end of the line for Team Blake’s Terry McDermott. We love Terry’s quirky personality and effortless vocals, but last night wasn’t his best performance. He’s also nearing the realm of the one-dimensional contestant (and we all know how Xtina feels about that).
And though we were big fans of Dez Duron’s rendition of the popular Justin Bieber tune, “U Smile,” last night, his coach’s desperate attempts to keep him in the competition may have turned off voters. Did anyone else notice that after several monotone (and occasionally rude) responses, Carson Daly stopped going to Christina for comment? Yeah ... there was probably a reason for that.
Who do you think will be headed home tonight? Weigh in below, and tune in at 8 p.m. ET on NBC to find out!
