What Does “The X Factor” Mean? You Asked, We Answered!

Gather ‘round, children of the planet X Factor and let’s discuss this age-old question. On its most basic, non-alphabetic level, “X” is a variable used in math to represent an unknown number which influences the equation. In the case X + 3 = 4, the letter “X” would be equal to one.

In regards to the show of the same name, “X Factor” means an unexplained but important variable that may be present in one person but not another. This could be an incredible stage presence, great performance technique, or the ability to make an audience feel what a contestant is singing — something that may not have been taught, but is certainly tangible.

Does that answer your question?
