NYPD Officer Buys Barefoot Homeless Man Shoes, Inspiring Image Goes Viral

When NYPD Officer Larry DePrimo came across a barefoot homeless man sitting on a Manhattan sidewalk on November 14, his actions epitomized “protect and serve.”

Rather than keep walking, the 25-year-old went in to a nearby Skechers store and bought the homeless man socks and insulated boots, reports Newsday. The officer says, "I had two pairs of wool winter socks and combat boots, and I was cold." After Officer DiPrimo knelt down and put the socks and shoes on the man, who is still unidentified, he says "He smiled from ear to ear [...] It was like you gave him a million dollars."

A tourist from Arizona caught the random act of kindness, snapped a pic, and posted it to the NYPD Facebook page, where it’s since gone viral. Over 130K shares and 405K likes makes this a widespread holiday heart-warmer that we hope inspires more good will towards men.
