Will Marley Ruin Jake and Ryder’s New Friendship?

Glee’s Jake (Jacob Artist) and Ryder (Blake Jenner) developed a fierce rivalry during “Dynamic Duets,” as they both battled for the affections of Marley (Melissa Benoist). Yet by the end of the episode, the two boys seemed to have worked through their differences, and they emerged with what appears to be a solid friendship.

But is this peace between them really destined to last? Actually, it just might be — at least according to actress Melissa Benoist. Melissa tells The Hollywood Reporter that she views the boys’ fight over Marley as a simply a “roadblock” on the way to their friendship. Now that they’ve bonded over the things that they struggle with in life, Melissa doesn’t expect the two will be at each other’s throats anytime soon.

“Marley, at this point, they both recognize that the other just wants her to be happy and to get everything she deserves because they both genuinely care about her and think she deserves really good things,” Melissa tells THR. “She's definitely an obstacle for both of them but their friendship seems pretty solid at this point.”

Of course, old tensions could alway rear up again if Marley ultimately makes a choice over which of the two boys she prefers — and it’s sounding like the one-time wallflower may be choosing between them sooner than expected.

“Marley has her sights set on one,” Melissa says, laughing. “It's a tough competition; they're both such great guys for her.” We already know which of the two boys Melissa hopes her character will end up with. Do you think that Glee’s Marley will ultimately make the same choice?
