X Factor’s Carly Rose Sonenclar on Singing Adele and Missing Beatrice — Exclusive
There are few people in this world who can successfully cover Adele’s song catalog, but 13-year-old X Factor contestant Carly Rose Sonenclar is one of them. Wetpaint Entertainment chatted with the pint-size New Yorker after her astounding performance on November 28, 2012 — which garnered praise from all four judges. Carly filled us in on how she prepared to sing that epic ballad, what it’s like without BFFs Arin Ray and Beatrice Miller in the house, and what she’s preparing for her next performance.
How did you feel about your rendition of “Rolling in the Deep”? We were trying to differentiate. I worked it out with my vocal coach and we literally went line-by-line saying, “What would be cool here and what would be cool there?” What did you think of the judges’ praises? I’m very happy with them! Did losing Arin Ray and Beatrice Miller affect you at all this week? Arin is like a big brother and Beatrice is like a sister. I was sobbing. It’s hard. Have you spoken to Arin or Beatrice since they were eliminated? Yes, they’re just so supportive and so nice. They’re just trying to make it work for them out there, without X Factor. What can we expect to see from you next week to step up your game, if that’s even possible for you? Hopefully, I’ll make it to next week and if I do, I don’t know. I think I want to take more contemporary songs and make them my own.
