Carrie Underwood Will Star in NBC’s Sound of Music as Maria von Trapp
The hills are alive with the sound of...Carrie Underwood?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the American Idol Season 4 winner has been cast as Maria von Trapp in a three-hour live broadcast of The Sound of Music on NBC.
Smash producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have been tapped to helm the production, which will air during the 2013 holiday season.
Julie Andrew famously portrayed Maria — the nun-turned-governess-turned-captain’s wife — in the film version of The Sound of Music.
Carrie herself has been quietly honing her acting skills. She had a supporting role in the 2011 film Soul Surfer, and played a flight attendant in a guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother in 2010.
What do you think of Carrie’s new role? And more importantly, who’s fit to play her love interest, Captain Georg von Trapp?
