Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 9: “Queen of Hearts” Review: What Did You Think?

Once Upon a Time Season 2 headed into the winter hiatus with Season 2, Episode 9: “Queen of Hearts.” We expected the last episode before the break to be epic. Did it live up to our hopes? Read on for Wetpaint Entertainment's review of the episode, and then rate it yourself.

The race to get back to Storybrooke came to a head, with Cora (Barbara Hershey) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) trying to beat Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Mary Margaret/Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) back to our world. They managed to get the compass and trap our heroines, thanks to Cora's hold on Aurora's (Sarah Bolger) heart. Bad news!

Meanwhile, Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) convinced Regina (Lana Parrilla) that the risk of Cora getting through was so strong that they had to block anyone coming through the portal — putting Snow and Emma's lives at risk. Fortunately, Henry (Jared Gilmore) came in with an emotional plea to his mother, convincing Regina to reverse the spell.

Snow and Emma escaped just in time to get to the portal Cora and Hook had created, and after an epic fight came through the portal, leaving their enemies behind. Joy all around!

Meanwhile, in the flashback portion of the episode we learned that Cora and Hook have been in league for a long time, ever since he teamed up with her back when she was the Queen of Hearts in Wonderland (yeah, that happened). Cora is the one that preserved a portion of Fairytale Land, knowing that one day the curse would break, and that would be the time for them to cross over. So that's a couple of mysteries solved. We loved Hook's dynamic with Regina in the flashback, too.

Of course, in the last moments of the episode, Hook and Cora did manage to come over to our world, thanks to the bean Hook had taken from the giant. It looks like we're in for some epic conflict when the show return!

Overall, we give it 4.5 stars. What do you think? Rate it yourself below!

I loved this episode!

It was a letdown.
