Three Cups of Tea Co-Author Commits Suicide at Age 49
Sad news: David Oliver Relin, a journalist and co-author of the bestseller Three Cups of Tea, has died at age 49. His family told the New York Times he "suffered from depression" and took his own life.
Relin wrote the popular book with Greg Mortenson, but the Times says he suffered emotionally and financially as facts in Three Cups of Tea were called into question. The family spoke through Relin's agent and said a police statement would be released later this week. Relin is survived by his wife, Dawn, in addition to his mother, stepfather and sisters.
According to the Times, he had finished a new book on two doctors working to cure cataract-related blindness in the developing world and it's scheduled for publication in spring 2013.
