Lana Parrilla on Regina’s Reunion With Cora: “I Foresee” Her Using Magic Again

Mommie Dearest is coming, and it won’t be pretty.

On the Once Upon a Time Season 2 winter finale (Season 2, Episode 9: “Queen of Hearts”), Cora (Barbara Hershey) was seen sailing her way to Storybrooke and will, probably, meet up with her daughter, Regina (Lana Parrilla). Lana recently talked to LA TV Insider Examiner about the stress of that mother/daughter relationship and what it could mean for their reunion when the show returns in January.

“In Storybrooke, Regina thinks her mother is dead, to then only learn that she is not,” Lana said. Once she learned Cora could come to Storybrooke, "There are a lot of emotions mixed around that. Number one, I think she’s terrified of her mother. It’s the worst possible outcome that could happen to her.”

It’s especially troubling since Regina isn’t up to speed with her magic in Storybrooke, and she’s trying not to use magic at all to get back in Henry's (Jared Gilmore) good graces.

“Then there’s also just the mother/daughter dynamic,” Lana continued. “If you can just think about it and take yourself out of the story land or fairytale land or TV land; if you think about it: ‘Okay, if a daughter betrays her mother or vice versa, you put them together however many years later…’ I mean the butterflies in one’s stomach, the panic attacks — Regina’s probably going to end up smoking cigarettes and drinking too much scotch!”

Poor Regina! She’s already the friendless girl left out of dinner celebrations, and now her evil mom is coming.

“I think if she ends up using magic again, which I foresee happening again,” Lana teased, “Honestly, it has to be executed differently than what we’ve seen, and that’s something I’m playing with now.”

Do you think Regina should use her magic again, to try and defeat Cora, so Cora doesn’t hurt Henry? Do you think Henry will understand if Regina does that, or will he be mad at her, thinking that she hasn’t really changed?
