For those not familiar with the modern tradition, it goes like this: Families celebrating Christmas recruit a magical elf to keep watch in their homes and give Santa a daily”Naughty” or “Nice” report. Each night the elf magically travels to the North Pole, then returns in the morning to a different location (or shelf) in the family’s home. Kids are told that if they touch or move the elf, his powers vanish.
Unfortunately, Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer made a major gaffe in her segment covering the legend, reports Huffington Post. Lara not only touched the elf, she showed parents moving the elf around the house while the children slept. As if! Next thing she’ll say that reindeer can’t fly. Come on, GMA — don’t be a Grinch!
But Lara has mended her naughty ways, reporting a follow-up segment explaining that the elf doesn’t have his powers until he’s been named and adopted by a family, and GMA’s had yet to be taken in. Once the adoption happens, then it’s “hands off the elf.”
Watch her well-intentioned backpedaling below (the original segment has been removed from GMA’s site). We know that Lara didn’t mean to reveal Santa’s secrets, and we hope her new elf puts Lara in the “Nice” column!
