If you’ve read a fashion magazine in recent years, you’ve likely been acquainted with Lucy Sykes Rellies, Consulting Fashion Director for Rent the Runway. The former editor of Marie Claire has been published in every fashion bible from Vogue to Allure and just happens to be smart, sweet, and stunningly stylish. We’d hate her if we didn’t worship her so much! So when we had a chance to chat with her and hear about her favorite holiday fashion trends, we were all ears. Here’s what Lucy says you should be wearing this season!
Get lacy. Classic, ladylike, and sexy, lace is also hot, hot, hot for the holidays. Black lace is always major, but this year, designers likeElie Tahari andDiane von Furstenberg are showcasing colored lace that’ll add a little sizzle to any seasonal celebration.
Choose bright, bold color. Think pinks, blues, and reds. Red, of course, is always hot for the holidays because it’s super festive. A LRD (little red dress) by Moschino can look classic, yet fun, and works great for anything from a holiday dinner to New Year’s Eve night on the town. Go for ‘80s chic. Forget the tired boho look, because this holiday season we’re headbanging our way back to the ‘80s with metallic dresses and huge, bold-colored crystal jewelry. Accent any frock withover-adorned cuffs by Dannijo, aginormous statement necklace, or anything else that reminds you of Dynasty. Shine on. If you can’t get away with sequins during the holidays, then when? New Year’s Eve was basically created for ladies dying to showcase their favorite sparkles, so don’t be shy… Break out your shiniest, black, gold, orsilver sequin dresses and tops, and show the crowd how to really party like a rockstar! Put on some sleeves. Great news! Covered arms are very hot and happening this holiday season.Gorgeous minis with long sleeves are all the rage, so you can raise your arms on the dance floor without worrying about showing off the dreaded underarm jiggle. It’s a fashionable flip of the finger to gravity!
