What Is the NYADA Winter Showcase on Glee?

Did you hear the news? Rachel (Lea Michele) has been invited to perform at NYADA’s Winter Showcase! We’ve seen the spoiler clip, and we’re practically bursting with excitement. Miss Berry really is living the dream in New York City.

We couldn’t be more thrilled for her. But we only have one question: What exactly is NYADA’s Winter Showcase, anyway?

We’ve spent the past three seasons living in the world of Lima, Ohio. We know what Sectionals is. We’ve heard of Regionals and Nationals. But NYC is a whole new ballgame. Do performing arts schools even have nation-wide singing competitions, too — or is the Winter Showcase something totally different from what we already know?

Luckily, we have Kurt (Chris Colfer) to help us out. In E! Online’s exclusive sneak peek clip of Glee Season 4, Episode 9: “Swan Song,” Kurt explains:

The Winter Showcase is like the NYADA Met Ball. Ten students are invited to perform at the showcase, the cream of the crop.

He continues, “[NYADA Dean Carmen Tibideaux] hand-writes and hand-delivers each invitation. Just getting invited is an honor. Former winners have gone on to win Emmys, Tonys, Golden Globes, and even an Oscar. They all agree: The proudest and greatest moment of their careers was when Carmen handed them that golden envelope.”

Sounds like quite the honor. Congrats to Rachel on receiving an invite — and as just a freshman, at that! Next stop: The 2017 Tonys!
