Kate Middleton’s Hospital Fooled by Radio Station’s Prank Call From Fake Royals
Some people have way too much time on their hands.
Australian DJs posing as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles called the hospital in London where pregnant Kate Middleton (aka the Duchess of Cambridge) is staying to recover from hyperemesis gravidarum. You can hear the call here. The accents are awful, but for some reason they actually got through to hospital officials who gave an update.
Afterward, King Edward VII Hospital issued an apology (via the BBC) for falling for the gag. "This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII's Hospital deeply regrets this incident." The radio station also apologized for "any inconvenience caused by the inquiry."
The on-air folks added, "We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We're very sorry if we've caused any issues and we're glad to hear that Kate is doing well."
It was pretty obnoxious of the radio folks to even pull that prank, but alarming how easy it was for them to get through!
At least they didn’t talk to Kate — although it would’ve been funny if she started cursing them out.
